Four-year-old Raped and Killed: Did her Clothes Matter?

December 29, 2012

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Nov 23, 2012

Though the brutal gang rape and murder of a young medical student in Delhi has spurred a movement of anger and outrage against the government and police in Delhi (click here), rape and femicide (the killing of girls and women) are the fastest growing crimes in India.

One of the questions we have to ask is : How does Indian society view this crime? Very often rape victims are blamed by the government and police for the crime.  They question how the victim dressed, or claim they behaved “immorally”   Does dress and “immoral” behavior get little girls raped and killed too?

A 4-year-old girl in the Majra village of Meerut district, was brutally raped and strangled to death while on her way to school.  The rapist has yet to be identified.  Full report here

We have some unintelligent creeps in the congress as well in some other party who by making comments on women show their poor intelligence, poor culture, character, and lack of common sense this type of leaders should rather be punished for obscene remarks rather than eveteasers so that theit supporters do dot indulge in such activities. The court should take a note of it and bring them to justice even if he is son of President,Trinamool MP or Andra MP

the fact is clothing doesn’t matter when it comes to rape. take for example the case of Rhonda Cornum. she was an American soldier serving in the first gulf war in 1991 when her helicopter was shot down by the Iraqi army. she was wearing a US army flight crew uniform, a bullet proof vest, a flight helmet, and had her hair cut short when she crashed and was captured by the Iraqi army. she was also suffering from multiple injuries from the crash and a gunshot wound. as she said years later “when they first captured me they thought i was just a small guy because all crew members wear the same uniform. when they took my helmet off that was when they figured out that I was a woman. Even though I was still in uniform and covered in sand, sweat, and blood and I know I couldn’t have smelled too good without any hesitation an Iraqi soldier sexually assaulted me.” Clothes don’t prevent rape after reading many cases I’m convinced of this. it doesn’t matter whether a woman wears a small bikini, a sari, a military uniform, or even a burka a woman can still be raped so stop blaming the victim.
