Happy Birthday Anshu: We Shall Not Forget Till Justice is Done!
Had she been alive today, Anshu Singh would have been celebrating her 24th birthday with her loved ones.
But just 45 days after her wedding, in January this year, she was brutally attacked and murdered in her apartment, by killers hired by her husband and in-laws, in what appears to be a dowry motivated case. READ HER STORY HERE.
The 50 Million Missing Campaign has been supporting Anshu’s family in their fight for justice. There is one woman killed in a dowry related incident in India every 20 minutes. Most of these cases are written off as suicides or accidents, and most are never even investigated. But the Singh family has been unperturbed by the various hurdles the system has thrown at them. They have been remarkably persistent in the face of corruption and delays, that causes many other families in similar situations to give up or not be able to pursue justice for their daughters. Their determination has paid off, and just last month all the accused in Anshu’s case were finally arrested and imprisoned, and are awaiting trial.
Here in this post is a picture of Anshu from when she was a young girl, the way her family always wants to remember her — bright, spunky, and determined.
This birthday greeting–loaded with love and hugs– for Anshu comes from her parents Girendra and Anita Singh, her sisters Kavita and Swati, her brother Ankit, and her brother-in-law Amit. And of course all her supporters from The 50 Million Missing Campaign.
We promise to keep her memory alive, and stand by the Singh family till justice is done. It will be justice not just for Anshu but for all the young women who have become name-less, faceless victims of this brutal practice.

How many more like Anshu will die before we fix the defects in our society that tolerates such brute acts?
The crimes regarding dowry, female feticide, and infanticide are of such massive proportions — that there absolutely needs to be a separate fast- track court system and specially trained police force/ police stations to deal with all these issues impacting on girls and women effectively. Only then will there to be any kind of change.
Why should a woman suffer so much in this social cancer of dowry system? My heart and mind goes to Anshu Singh’s family and other victims of criminal offence. The defendants may scape in the legal courts but in the law of Nature (Prakrti) we cannot escape the Law of KARMA. We are reborn to pay or undergo our good or bad samaskaras. Forgiveness is very important to the family of victims so you can move on by the Grace of God. Om Shanti…
On 25th January, was the 1st Death Anniversary of my beloved Anshu Singh.
I am thankful to all of you for your kind support to me and grieved family of Anshu.
