I don’t think it is, and I also think there is a sensible way to reach middle ground on dowry.
If you can improve on it, please do comment:

@etio — There are about 1800,000 little girls between the ages of 1 day to 6 years bashed to death in India because their parents don’t want girls for whom they have to pay dowry. See this article. There are about 163000 women murdered by fire for dowry every year. See this. And of course more than a million girls in middle and upper class homes eliminated before birth. All because of dowry!!! More so dowry is illegal in India. Did you know that? And the reason it is illegal is because the government of india recognizes that it is the no. 1 cause of the mass elimination of women from this country. Murder is illegal too. But you think there is a “sensible middle” ground for that as well? Do you understand the scale of the human rights disaster that we are talking about here?

i couldn’t agree more! i for one do the eradication of women in India has already calmed more than 4 times as many lives as the Nazi Holocaust! and wort of all the Indian Holocaust is only expected to get worse in the coming years! where dose it end?

It seems like a genuine story with deliberately misleading interpretation to further a particular propaganda. In particular it is about intimate-partner-violence in general and not dowry.

In all countries killing of a woman by her domestic partner is a crime. But in India it has become a social epidemic. There are 106,000 women burnt to death for dowry. This is not normal. Further more these are pre-mediated gang murders. An entire family gangs up and murders a woman. That is not normal for any other country!
